SOCOTECO I GM Mariñas receives Special Citation upon retirement

GM Mariñas accepts his Special Citation trophy from Administrator Bueno at the Queenie Room on August 15, 2005, while some NEA officials applaud.

Atty. Pio B. Mariñas, General Manager of South Cotabato I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SOCOTECO I), received his Special Citation award for Longest Serving General Manager Maintaining Outstanding Performance during his visit to NEA last August 15, 2005. GM Mariñas was supposed to receive the award during the Conference of Electric Cooperatives and Recognition Ceremony last May 27, 2005 in Tagbilaran City , Bohol . GM Mariñas shares this special citation with Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NOCECO) General Manager Lamberto M. Canlas.

GM Mariñas visited NEA to process his retirement and was surprised with the awarding of the Special Citation by Administrator Edita S. Bueno in the presence of some NEA officials. He has served SOCOTECO I for thirty-two (32) years that saw him put his dedication, commitment and hardwork paving the way for one strong, undaunted and dynamic organization that achieved a dramatic turnaround from Category D to category A+, and consistently reaped various laurels under his leadership.

“From a simple dream of bringing electricity to the rural areas, I have watched this cooperative grow into the strong organization that it is now. But the exigency of time now beckons me to head off and make life come into full circle as I enjoy more time with my family and friends and away from the tension and pressure of keeping the company stable and moving forward or worrying about how to address the PPA problem,” GM Mariñas explained.

He was one of the pioneers that composed SOCOTECO I's Interim Board during its inception in 1971, occupying various positions as a member (1971-1977), treasurer (1981-1982) and president (1978-1980). Then, he was named its General Manager in 1982, thus, turning his vision for the cooperative into a reality.

“Through these years, my dream remains to see this cooperative continue to brave the challenging waters of rural electrification program with the same or even greater zeal and zest it has ever have over the years. Please accept my deepest gratitude for every challenge hurdled, every lesson learned, every laurel received in humility, every moment lived for service, and for every good thing the cooperative has accorded me all these years,” he said.
